I. Taiyuan University of TechnologyInternational Student Education

Taiyuan University of Technology (TYUT) was founded in 1902, boasting one of the three earliest national universities in China. Now, it is on the list of “the top 100 universities in the 21st century” in China as named by the Ministry of Education of China and the only “Project 211” university in Shanxi. In 2017, TYUT was selected as one of the “Double First-class” universities to participate in the country’s construction plan of world-class universities and first-class disciplines.

TYUT covers an area of nearly 530 acres, public building area about 1.49 million m2. Presently, 31,154 undergraduates, 5,692 postgraduates and nearly 736 PhD candidates study and live on its campus. The university has 81 undergraduate majors, 123 master stations, 51 doctoral stations and 13 post-doctoral research centers. In addition, TYUT has 3 national key disciplines, 4 national-level model centers of experiment education, 5 national-level promotion programs of special disciplines, and 7 National Centers for Engineering Practice and Education. Now, among its 3,531 teaching staff members are 2,068 full-time teachers, 938 professors, 185 supervisors of PhD candidates and 2 academicians of the Chinese Academy of Engineering. According to the “Disciplines and Majors Evaluation Report on Chinese Universities” in 2016, the majors of Mechanical Manufacturing and Automation and of Material Shaping and Control Engineering, have for the first time entered the national 5-star undergraduate disciplines. In addition, the university’s engineering disciplines of material science and engineering and that of chemical science and engineering, both rank among ESI global disciplines ranking top 1% of Engineering.

TYUT has begun its international students programs since the early 1980s. Now the number of international students has reached more than 500. Up to 2018, TYUT has had international students from over 100 countries, including Russia, Japan, South Korea, Thailand, Burma, Vietnam, Afghanistan, Malaysia, Mongolia, Philippines, Yemen, Nepal, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Palestine, Pakistan, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, Cameroon, Nigeria, Benin, Ghana, Kenya, Malawi, Seychelles, Mauritius, Mozambique, Sultan, Democratic Republic of the CongoCongo-Kinshasa, The Republic of CongoCongo-Brazzaville, Zambia, Equatorial Guinea, South Africa, Zimbabwe, Chile, Peru, Bolivia, France, Italy, Britain, Spain, Belgium, Germany, Holland, Romania, United States, Canada, Jamaica, Antigua and Barbuda, the British Virgin Islands, Venezuela, Samoa, Cook islands, Australia, Kiribati, and Saudi Arabia. In TYUT, the international students study the Chinese language, and they also study in many of its disciplines and majors for bachelor’s degree, master’ s degree and doctoral degree. TYUT welcomes self-funded students and students funded by scholarships. The applicants may also apply for TYUT international student scholarship, etc.

Ⅱ. Programs

TYUT is recruiting new overseas students for degree programs (bachelor degree student, master degree student and PHD student) and non-degree programs(Chinese language/short-term student) .

 

Ⅲ. Applicant Qualifications

1. Basic Requirement

Applicants should be in good health, observe the Chinese laws and TYUT regulations, and respect the Chinese moral standards, conventions and customs.

2. Identity and Nationality Requirement

Applicants should be non-Chinese citizens with valid non-Chinese passports. Applicants of overseas Chinese, foreign citizens of Chinese origin or emigrated Chinese citizens, must hold a valid foreign passport or nationality certificates for four years or above, and have an actual overseas residential record for at least two years over the last four years (before April 30, 2019). Actual residence abroad for nine months can be calculated as one year and the entry and exit seals shall prevail.

 

3. Degree and Age Requirement

1) Degree Applicants:

Applicants for bachelor degree should be under 35 years old and have a senior high school diploma;

Applicants for master degree should be under 40 years old and have a bachelor degree;

Applicants for PHD degree should be under 45 years old and have a master degree.

All applicants should be over the age of 18.

2) Non-Degree Applicants:

Applicants should submit the highest education certificate;

②Applicants should be over 18 and under 45 years old.

3) Those applicants under 18 years old are required to submit guardians’ proofs of identification, commitment letters and the authorization letters from their parents who trust permanent foreigner residents in China or Chinese residents as the guardians.

4. Language Proficiency Requirements

1)Applicants who will be taught in Chinese as they enter their major shall pass new HSK4 with a score of no less than 200 and HSKK (intermediate) with a scores of no less than 70. After registration at TYUT, applicants are required to pass the Chinese proficiency test with corresponding difficulty level held by TYUT, before they officially enter their major to study.

2) Applicants who will be taught in Chinese but have not met the Chinese language proficiency level requirement shall take language courses for one year and pass new HSK4 with scores of no less than 200 and HSKK (intermediate) with scores of no less than 70 before they are allowed to enter their major to study.

3) For applicants of programs in English, their English proficiency level must meet one of the following standards:

A. The applicant is a native speaker of English.

B. The highest diploma is obtained through an English program, i.e. all courses were taught in English;

C. The applicants have obtained 6.0 for IELTS (single subject not less than 5.5 points) or 85 for TOFEL (single subject not less than 20), or they have obtained equivalent English level;

At the official beginning of their study, applicants should pass the university English proficiency test held by TYUT as a proof of their English proficiency level.

Ⅳ. Courses and certifications

1. Degree Applicants:

On completion of the prescribed courses and meeting all the requirements of the exam scores and graduation thesis defence, students are awarded the graduation certificates and the relevant degrees. Note: In addition to meeting the above requirements, students of programs taught in English should also pass HSK3 before graduation.

2. Preparatory Students:

In addition to language courses, preparatory students are required to study the basic professional courses prescribed by TYUT. Upon completion of the preparatory courses, students must pass the new HSK4 with scores of no less than 200 and HSKK (intermediate) with scores no less than 70, and they must pass the semester and annual evaluations before they are allowed to enter their chosen major to study.

3. Non-Degree Applicants:

1) Chinese Language courses: Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing, Newspaper-reading and Poetry Appreciation, etc.;

2) Chinese Culture courses: History, Customs, Ancient Architecture, Culinary Art, Tai Chi, Martial Arts, Qigong and Calligraphy;

3) Upon completion of course study, a certificate is issued.

 

Ⅴ.  Application and Admission

1. Degree programs starts in autumn (usually in September). Applicants are required to submit application materials online before April 30, 2019.

Applicants are required to login on at http://is.tyut.edu.cn to obtain a personal account number, and submit all the application materials (To ensure that the application is accepted and processed in a timely fashion, all information must be correct and all materials must be complete):

1) Submit a photocopy of passport with all used pages(If you have changed your passport, please upload a photocopy of each page of your new and old passport.)

2) Provide a resume (in English and in Chinese) as required and in accordance with the resume template provided online.

3) Submit a photocopy of Chinese proficiency certificate(s).

4) Submit a photocopy of the highest academic diploma of degree and the transcript of the educational records.                            

Bachelor degree applicants should submit the senior high school transcript, a photocopy of the senior high school diploma;

Master degree applicants should submit the undergraduate transcript, a photocopy of Bachelor degree certificate;

PHD degree applicants should submit the master transcript, a photocopy of Master degree certificate.

Note: all transcript and diploma must be translated into Chinese and English and notarized by authority.

5) Submit two recommendation letters

Bachelor degree applicants should submit two recommendation letters from the high school teachers;

Master degree applicants should submit two recommendation letters from the associate professors or above;

PHD degree applicants should submit two recommendation letters from the associate professors or above.

6) Submit bank statement of at least RMB 30,000 (If a personal account is unavailable, it can be guaranteed by relatives, cooperative schools or institutions)

7) Submit Physical Examination Record

8) Submit a notarized No Criminal Activity Certificate

 

2. Non-degree programs starts in autumnusually in September. Applicants are required to submit their application materials between February 1st and April 30th , 2019 online.

Applicants are required to login on at http://is.tyut.edu.cn to obtain a personal account number, and submit all the application materials (all information must be correct and all materials must be complete, otherwise application will be rejected)

1) Submit a photocopy of passport with all used pages (If you have changed your passport, you must upload a photocopy of each page of your new and old passport.)

2) Provide a resume (in English and in Chinese) in accordance with the requirements (resume template provided online)    

3) Submit a photocopy of the highest education diploma, and in its English and Chinese versions (all diploma and translation must be notarized by authority)

4) Submit bank statement of a deposit in applicant’s name of at least RMB 80,000 (If a personal account is unavailable, it can be guaranteed by relatives, cooperative schools or institutions)

5) Submit Physical Examination Record

6) Submit a notarized No Criminal Activity Certificate.

 

3. Preparatory students may continue with their degree courses when they pass HSK4 and HSKK (intermediate) as well as the semester and annual evaluations. They are required to apply online at http://is.tyut.edu.cn.

 

Note: For scholarships offered by Chinese Scholarship Council (CSC) and Confucius Institute (CIS), please refer to their respective requirements.

 

4. Upon admission, the students will receive the following documents sent by our university: Admission Letter, JW202 Form/JW201 and registration instructions.

 

5. Admitted students should bring their passport, Admission Letter, JW202/ JW201 Form, and Physical Examination Record to a local Chinese embassy or consulate to apply for a student visa (X).

 

6. Admitted students register at the university according to the time and date stipulated in the Admission Letter, with the original documents of passport, the JW202/ JW201 form, the admission letter, and the highest educational qualification.

Physical   Examination

1. Pertaining   to the law of China, international students must have   physical   examination and pay the physical examination fee upon their arrival in China.

2. The   students who leave China for more than three months are required to have   another physical examination.

3. Students who   transfer to TYUT from other provinces are required to have physical   examination.

4. The standard   fee is subject to change by the notice of the Shanxi International Travel Healthcare Center.

5. Students   will have the physical examination upon their check-in and registration at   TYUT.

Residence   Permit

Standard   fee charged by the Office of Public Security. It varies according to the   period of residence permit you apply for.

Procedures for International Students

Step1 Applicants apply online at http://is.tyut.edu.cn (from 01/02/2019 to 30/04/2019 )

Step2 Applicants’ documents and materials received and examined (by 01/05/2019)

Step3 Qualifications of the applicants are tested and applicants take video interview evaluation (from 01/05/2019 to 15/05/2019 )

Step4 Pre-admission are decided and the pre-admission letter email sent to applicants( 16/ 05/2019---20/ 05/2019)

Step5 Applicants pay Registration Fee (Remittance slip date before 10/06/2019)

Step6  A list of admitted international students are decided (11/06/2019---15/06/2019)

Step7 JW 201/JW 202 forms and other approval materials are applied for 11/06/2019 ---30/06/2019

Step8 JW 201/JW202 forms and admission letters are mailed to new students. 01/07/2019--

Step9 Admitted students apply online for pickup and accommodation at http://is.tyut.edu.cn 01/08/2019---01/09/2019
